Today’s episode is an important one for anyone who has struggled with getting things done. Procrastination is a manifestation of your fear of failure. If you don’t take action, you can’t fail.
One of the hidden ways we procrastinate that feels productive, is to read books and take courses instead of taking action. Doing those things AND taking action isn’t buffering, but if we do those things in place of taking action, you are likely afraid of moving forward just in case there is a failure on the other side.
Jaime talks through three ways to get to the other side of procrastination:
Have awareness
Let your fears come to the surface, without judgement, write them out
Create a plan for getting around those fears
Lean into your support people and available resources to move forward, you aren’t alone.
Look at your fears objectively and look at the solutions so that you can move forward despite the fear.

Jaime’s client, Shemaine Doyle of Brave, left the corporate world in 2022 to start a business. Fear and insecurity were at the front and center of every decision. Fear had stopped her before. The fear of scarcity as a mother and wife, combined with the insecurity of not knowing if she had the right skills to lead a branding agency, had kept her from making the leap.
And then she started managing her mind. Recognizing the negative thoughts and stories that weren’t supportive, that slowed her down and made her question herself.
Once Shemaine started applying coaching tools to shift those thoughts, her fear and insecurity completely disappeared.
She’s no longer afraid of:
Sales conversations
Networking
Presenting to groups of executives
Hiring the right people to be able to scale the business
It all just evaporated. But it took time and effort and patience with herself to retrain her brain. She went from feeling like she had to work 50 hours a week to realizing her skills and talents and outcomes aren’t tied to hours. She could work 10 hours and take a vacation and it in no way stood in the way of her success.
Through her journey, Shemaine realized that mindset is as critical to a successful business as anything else. It all starts there.

People naturally move away from discomfort, so when there’s a conversation you know you need to have, it’s normal to want to avoid it.
But what if you went into the conversation thinking it would be a great way to realign your relationship with that person rather than thinking it would be hard? It might actually go well and improve your rapport with one another.
Reframing your mindset is a great way to start going towards, rather than away from, these type of conversations with your staff.
In this episode, you will learn the three most important things to remember in a conversation with a staffer who isn’t quite meeting the mark:
Know the outcome you are hoping for from the conversation
Be clear
Be kind
Be honest
If you are a leader, it is your responsibility to give your team the tools they need to grow, the patience to let them get there, and the time needed from you to commit to their growth.
It feels easier to put off tough conversations, but putting them off just causes more stress and misalignment. Set clear expectations and let your people rise to the occasion.
And if you already know they aren’t the right fit for the role, be honest about that, too. Don’t string people along; either find them a new role or let them find an environment where they will have a chance to thrive.

As a small business owner, it can be hard to take a break. Particularly if you don’t have a team to pick up the work when you’re out.
When Covid hit the world in 2020, it was taken seriously. Everything slowed down. We started respecting sick days and allowing people to rest and recover. If someone had Covid we wouldn’t expect them to work.
What happened to respecting sick days? Why are we all back to the grind again?
In today’s episode, Jaime talks about contracting Covid and feeling pressure to continue working. Where does that pressure come from? Why do we feel guilt or that we need to prove something? Why don’t we allow ourselves rest?
Jaime teaches us how to maintain our boundaries so that we put ourselves and our health first:
Take all work apps off of your phone. There’s no need for a stress hit from work during your downtime.
Set an away message when you’re sick, and don’t be tempted to check emails or respond to texts, there’s nothing so urgent that can’t wait a few days (unless you work in the healthcare or emergency response field).
Don’t do laundry or clean (if you are lucky enough to have a partner to help). Lean on your people and don’t feel obligated, even when you’re feeling better but still not 100%. Take the pressure off of yourself.
It’s important as a leader to lead by example, to show your team that it’s ok to take time off when they are sick, show them by taking time off when you’re sick.

Angela hasn’t yet launched her pre-loved children’s boutique yet, but Angela has all of the ingredients of a solid CEO. This is what is making it possible for her to vision the business she wants, and do all of the tasks that will make it a reality.
Jaime’s guest in today’s episode is Angela Kyriakou. Angela went from senior manager in the corporate world, to launching a business aligned to her passion (of curating fashionable and high-quality kid’s clothes on a budget) with what she saw as a gap in the market.
Angela has all of the right traits to make this launch successful:
Angela looks at everything as a learning, so there is no failure
Angela makes decisions quickly without second-guessing herself, which makes forward movement much faster as she’s not stagnating at every decision point.
Angela is confident and has her own back, a skill that helps her ride the ups and downs and unknowns of entrepreneurship

Have you considered leaving your full-time work to pursue a career more aligned with your passion? How do you work through the fear of giving up a paycheck to pursue ‘magical things’?
Jaime’s guest in today’s episode is Rachel Hom-van den Wildenberg. Rachel went from a strategist role with an international sports brand, to full-time illustrator.
Change doesn’t happen instantly, sometimes a leap like this can be years in the making. For Rachel, it was three years of working through the fear, before she was ready for the leap. She had to learn how to be in her job in order to feel ready to leave it.
In this episode, you’ll learn to:
Find the courage to stay in your current job to learn the skills you’ll need when you leave
Look objectively at your contribution at work rather than counting hours
Give yourself credit for the journey you’ve been on towards a more aligned future, even if you haven’t yet taken action
That negative voice in your head isn’t actually making you more productive

Ah, those things that are so hard for us to do.
When we have to think about doing all of those hard things, they somehow feel harder. But when we establish a discipline, when we just put our shoes on without planning what will happen outside, it gets easier.
In this episode, you will give yourself the grace and confidence to stick to what you say you will do, even if it’s hard. You will learn to:
Stop beating yourself up and start going forward
Build confidence by doing what you say you will do
Find a way to create accountability for yourself
Today Jaime put her shoes on and went outside, and she has photographic evidence to prove it!
You all keep her honest and accountable.
